Nursing School Graduation

Well it has been a long, hard, busy, crazy road but now I am done. It is so nice to be able to watch TV when I want, be able to stay up late if I want because I know I don't have to be up to clinical in the morning but the best part.....No studying hours into the night......at least for a little while until I have to study for the boards.

Well I have somewhat of a spring break, technically I have a week off but the week after I have to go back I have a test and final the same week, then we have the weekend then 3rd semester starts so I do not get much of a break because I have to study, but I told myself I am going to take 3 days off and hang out with my girls so we went to Santa Cruz and had a great time. We also went to the Mystery Spot. It is a place in the woods near Santa Cruz where the gravity is off or something to that nature so as you can see you lean in all the pictures. It was fun for the kids to see.

Nursing school is CRAZY but I am half way done. I just got done with my labor and delivery rotation. I really enoyed being in on C-Sections and really would like to work in surgery. Next semester I have psych and peds so I will keep you updated as it goes.

This year Kaylee turned four and she was sooo excited to be a big girl. She just loves rollerskating and Rapunzel so for her birthday this year that is just what she got. Her favorite toy was her Rapunzel dress and wig. Grandma also took her to build a bear where she picked her colorful hippie bear and was able to build it with grandma. Of course she got a Rapunzel dress and wig for her doll too so we had to take a picture of the both of them together. The whol family was together ans we had a great time.

Well most of you know that Casey and I love to race so this year to so the Folsom turkey trot. We ran (well we were with the kids so we did not run that much) through Folsom's bike trails so it was really nice, and it was fun to get together as a family and then of course we went home ans ate a lovely meal.

Well I am so excited Casey finally graduated for the fire academy now that he has that done along with paramedic school he is finally done with school. I am so excited. It seems like it has been a long road. He really loves firefighting and has been doing really well. He does not want me to say this but he was one of the top recruits in his academy and got a medal for doing well which we are proud of. I am so happy he is done especially since I am in school it will take a little stress of of me too so that is nice.

Well things are coming along. The logs are all stacked and the roof is almost up we had hoped to get the roof and windows all up before the snow came but it look like that is not going to happen so the rood was just covered to protect it from the winter. My dad started to dig out a snow run for tubing so that should be fun. He said he is going to have Casey test it out for the first run to see if we need any adjusting or need to take any more trees down......ya right I think we will just ties some rocks to an inter tube ans send it down for a test.

This year we were Geisha girls. Everyone kept telling me that my little girls looked like china dolls........oh how cute. I am so grateful that my family is so helpful. Adam and Emily put on a little Halloween get together and involved my kids in it even though I had to study. They are great like that.

Nursing school!

Well for those of you who may know or not know I got into nursing school. It has been a real blessing getting into the program that I did. Since its is merit based, instead of the lottery system like most are, it is grant funded so my tuition is paid for and to top it off I was accepted from the hospital that puts the nursing school on for a scholarship to pay for any other expenses ie. books uniforms, equipment, test fees. So I could not ask for a greater blessing. Nursing school is crazy though, the hardest thing I have ever done even compared to learning a new language on my mission, but I like it, and it definatly confirms that I want to do it. Everyone says the days are long but the weeks are short and that is so true. Here are some pictures of my clinical group and some of my classmates.

Well we started stacking the logs and it is really start to come along. Here are some pictures of the first floor, we still need to put on the second floor and the roof so it is going to be pretty big. It still has a long way to go but I can't wait until it is done. Here are also some pictures of where the windows are going to be and the beautiful view they will have. The logs are uneven because they need to be that way for stability but as soon as we are ready to put the windows in we will take a chainsaw and evenly cut out the area for the windows. We need to get the longs stacked windows in the roof on ans seal the wood before the winter.

Pioneer Day Celebration

July 24th celebrates the arrival of all the early pioneers into SLC. This is very special for us and we had a bunch of FHE's about pioneer and family history. The kids loved dressing up and hearing about our ancestor stories, Mykell got sick though as you can tell in the pictures but we still had a good time.

Ahh now this summer Mykell broke her wrist rollerskating. We were having so much fun and then she fell and broke it. One thing that is nice is that the fracture is very minor and she only has to wear a splint so she can still go swimming in this hot weather. Here is a picture of her and peaches who just loves to cuddle with her which makes her feel so much better. Last summer was Kaylee this summer is Mykell I swear I don't beat my kids!

Our trip to Belize and Guatemala

This trip was wonderful, we has a little hiccup because my poor mom got very ill and had to leave early :( but she is okay thank goodness......it never seems to end with her....poor thing We will just have to take her again sometime. The kids stayed with grandma and grandpa in Utah and since Casey is in the fire academy and I pretty much never see him I decided to go to Belize with my mom and sister. While we were there we just slept in...... a rare thing to come by as a mom, read a book during my free time......an even rarer thing is to have free time as a mom, and went to the beach, it was great. We also spent two days in Guatemala hiking through the rain forest which was very hot and humid. I just wore my swim suit the whole time and drank ALOT of water because it was sooo hot even in the shade. We hiked to see the Tikal ruins which were amazing. It was awesome to learn about the Mayan civilization, astronomy and religion. Next time we visit Belize we are going to go to Honduras and see more ruins.

Here are some of the temples we saw. There were a lot of huge ones that were very well preserved. One we were able to climb to the top.....it was very steep and very high so at the top it was a little scary to look down but we made it and the view at the top was awesome. We were able to scan the whole jungle and see the tip tops of the largest temple peaks through the canopy of thick trees. My sisters daughter Cassi and I made it to the top but were glad to get down on solid ground.

Rain Forest Wonders!

We has two wonderful tour guides who both grew up in the jungle so taught us everything from the trees, to the wild life, also about the insects amongst other things. Some interesting things we learned were about the gum tree and how they made real natural gum from cutting crosses in the bark and collecting the sap, we also learned about the trees that have other trees wrapped around them. He said that the spiral always grows from East to West and that is how they can find their way in the jungle. They also showed us different animals. We stayed in a little hut in the middle of the jungle which was really cool. Also the trees you see that I am standing against, that has the large branches at the top, the makers of the latest movie Avatar visited this site and pattered the trees in the movie after these ones.

Well Mykell turned the ripe old age of eight years old. Some of you may or may not know that in our religion( since babys are innocent and don't make mistakes they do not need to be cleansed through baptism), so at the age of eight years old they get baptized because we are old enough to know right from wrong, to choose for them self to be baptized, and to learn to make correct and good choices. Well Mykell and her cousin Elise both turned eight a month apart so we decided to have them get baptized on the same day. They were soooo excited for this special day and the choice that both of them made to be baptized. After the baptism they both had matching dresses and looked like two beautiful little angels. Mykell was so happy and beaming after. It was a wonderful experience and we are grateful to all those who were able to join us for their special day.

Mykell had a wonderful luau swim party. We swam, played limbo, had a hula hoop contest and had a lot of fun with friends and family. I think everyones favorite part was the BBQ and dressing up.

SO Casey has been working as a parmedic and loves it. He brings patients in sometimes while I am volunteering at the ER so it is fun to see him there once and a while. Her started the fire academy last week ans since it is military style he had to shave his hair...AAAHHHH, I hate short hair but I guess I can get used to it though. He said that he actually likes is because he doesn't have to do his hair, because you know men, their short hair takes soo long to style and get ready:) Anyway I told him not to get used to it and to grow it out as soon as he is finished.

Well as soon as Mykell got out of school we left for a long drive to Utah to see Casey's brother come home from Madagascar. What a cool place to go on a mission. Yes they have lemurs, fussa and beautiful tree's just like the cartoon. Scott Casey's brother has a video of him feeding wild lemurs and even had one for a pet for a while. Anyway we were all excited to see him. Since it was Memorial weekend we visited the Hill Aerospace Museum which was so cool to see on this particular holiday. They had old planes from WWII, along with modern jets helicopters etc. And I loved listening to Scott and his and Casey's grandpa tell me about all the planes they used in particular wars and interesting war stories. The kids loved it too.

My favorite exhibit was the ones that explained about all the women who helped out at home building planes, doing machinery and even becoming pilots (the WASP women air force service pilots) this was particularly touching to me because most of you who know my personality know that I am a very strong willed independent women, opposite of a typical homemaker and I know that had I lived at this time I would have pulled up my sleeves and been right in there with all the women who ran the home front while the men were away fighting. It was great to learn about this time in history which paved the way for the whole women's movement in America

Last Day of School

For Mykells last day of school we went on a field trip to the old spaghetti factory to have lunch. It was a great end to the year and I enjoyed being able to go and have lunch with her and her class. All the students loved getting a tour of the restaurant and looking at all the pretty decorations the old building had. 1/2 Marathon Time again!

This time we ran it was very sunny and very hot but Casey and I both got a PR. Casey finished in 1 hour 38 min. and I finished in 1 hour 52 min. It was really a great run because the race was geared toward family and they had kids fun runs so Mykell was able to race this year and got third place, she was the first girl to finish but two boys beet her to the finish line, she was trilled and loved it. Who knows maybe she will turn out to be a runner like mom and dad. Next year we will have her run an even longer distance and see how she does. Here are some pictures of her at the starting and finish line. They had people dressed up like super heroes who waved flags so the kids knew where to turn around and where to go, which was a lot of fun. Mykell's race was first so we cheered her on and our race was after that so she then cheered us on. After we enjoyed a nice lunch with all the 4,700 people who signed up.

Ahh I love spring break when the weather starts turning warm ans all the flowers and green around too bad a storm is supposed to come in soon! Anyway we all had a break this week from school and it has bee SOOO nice to not have to do anything. We went to the movies, a bounce place, the zoo , you can see the kids trying to put thier legs up like the flamingos,and it was so much fun for all of us to hang out. I am going to enjoy this week while it lasts.

For St. Patty's Day Mykell's school had a contest to see who could wear the most green and gold so of course grandma and I had to go all out and she just loved dressing up. Everyone at school thought Mykell was the best dresses and we found the perfect socks to go with her outfit. They actually fit her little chicken legs. Well I would say that she had on the most green out of the whole school...ya think?

Well Kaylee had a great time for her birthday, Her wonderful grandparents sent her some money for her birthday (Thanks grandma Gwen, grandpa John, and grandma Tootie) and I thought, what would Kaylee like, well since she just got a lot of gifts from the family for Christmas so she just loves bouncehouses, we used that to get her a birthday party at a local bounce place. She had the best time. She even wanted to go down the slides with all of her balloons. So we got the family together and had a lot of fun ans ofcourse she got some of her favorite character toys from mommy daddy and grandma and grandpa Bouwhuis......Monsters Inc. She absolutley loved her Dora cake and all the cousins had a lot of fun playing together.

Here are some pictures of us up at the cabin. First before the snow came when dad and Casey put the steal beam in for the first floor and also when all the logs were finally delivered. We wanted to get the logs in before the winter but as you can see the snow came early and it would ruin the logs if we put them up with snow. So as of right now we are digging the trenches for all the water and electricity, then will take a winter break. It will be nice to start up again int he spring when we will have running water electricity. After all the snow came we went up there to play in the snow and made our first snowman. The snow was very wet so it was perfect for making a life size snowman!

San Francisco Trip

This weekend we had a blast. Casey's brother Dustin graduated from Palmer Chiropractic School so we all went down to the bay area and spent the day in San Francisco, while we were there we visited Fort Point. An old Fort that is situated right under the Golden Gate bridge which protected the the city from enemy ships sailing in. It was fun to look at the cannons and to see all the old soldiers uniforms. After going to Pier 39 and have a yummy bread bowl of clam chowder on the pier we headed to the Oakland Temple to see all the Christmas lights and to look out over the Bay. It was extremely cold but we had hot cocoa which warmed us up. It ended up snowing here the next day it was so cold. I don't usually wake up with snow on my car but it was fun to see.

This year we decided to do an Egyptian Theme. Kaylee's costume was the easiest costume I have ever made. I just got a pair of sweats, ripped up some fabric and then glued, with fabric glue, them all to the sweats. Yesterday Mykell and I had a great time. Life is so busy right now with school. Mykell is gone all day, so am I, along with Casey finishing up paramedic school and Kaylee going to childcare/preschool, (which she just loves). So I decided to have Kaylee play with her cousin Landon and take Mykell out on a mommy/daughter date downtown to see the 3D film Dolphins and Whales at the IMAX. It was a really cool film to see. They got the cameras so close that you could look into the whales eyes. Mykell kept on trying to reach out and grab the whales since the 3D made it look like they were right in front of us. We decided to take the train there which Mykell really enjoyed, plus she got a new pair of sparkly turtle earrings which, for a girl, always tops off the day. We decided to go to pizza for dinner and then headed back home. We had a lot of fun together and Mykell told me that I am the best mom ever, which of course made my day :)

Well the basement is all finished and we started on level one. It was our goal to get the floor for that level done then to start stacking the logs in hopes to get then stacked before the heavy snow comes but it look like we are going to have to take a break for the winter and then start stacking in the Spring. We will however put in electricity, water, etc. which will make it a lot nicer for when we go up there. Here are some photos of labor day weekend when we all went up to work!

We went up Saturday to help my dad out with the forms for the foundation. It was really dirty and a lot of fun, the kids even had fun helping too. The next big thing is to get all the foundation walls (for the basement) in so that we can construct the first floor, flooring then we can finally start stacking the logs. Yeah!

This was my first and will not be my last triathlon. I had a great time. Despite that fact that I was not in the best health, and did not feel the greatest on race day, I managed to finish in 1 hour 45 minutes. It was a sprint distance triathlon so we swam a half mile, biked 16 miles, and ran 3 miles, so it was a good one to start with. When I do my next one hopefully I can increase my time a bit because I will be able to train better and longer since I won't be so sick. I feel good now, I think we am going to run a half marathon in October, and then maybe switch over to another triathlon, we will see. I have to always be doing something physically challenging.......its addicting!!!

This are getting started. We finally finished all the plans, got the permit, and started laying the foundation. It will be a long time until it is done but we are happy that the ball is starting to roll!

Reading With The Dogs

There is a great program at out local library called "Reading With The Dogs." A group of very patient, well trained dogs come to the library and you can go and bring your favorite book there to read to them. It is great for kids, especially if they struggle with reading, because the dogs sit there patiently and listen, they don't care if your child messes up on a word, or takes a long time. So it is a great way to build up reading confidence. Mykell LOVED reading to the dogs and really enjoyed herself.

This year daddy had to work, emergencies don't take vacations I guess, so he was able to go to breakfast with us but its was just me and the girls who went to the parade and the Folsom rodeo. I have to say that I am not much of a horse, cowboy, rodeo girl but I really enjoyed it, so did the girls. Kaylee loved looking at the horses and Mykell loved the "mutton bustin' " where the kids rode the sheep. Mykell was especially happy because she found a silver dollar.We all really liked the parachuter who landed in the area with an American flag. It reminded me of when I went skydiving. It was a lot of fun

Mykell is such a good "mommy"

This week Mykell is "babysitting" my sisters cat while she is away. She has been so good at making sure "hot rod" is fed, played with, goes potty, and gets naps. She even carried it around in a sling we made while she was doing her chores because she did not want hot rod to be out of her sight. She will be such a good mommy!

Like I said before Kaylee is pure destruction. This time, after getting up from a nap, she some how happened to find a ballpoint pen (Don't ask me how! I have been so good about not having pens in her room ever since she took a marker and drew all over Mykell's cute bed sheets and blanket) anyway she found a ballpoint pen and managed to break it open and spread it everywhere. Most of it came off of her hands except now her nails are black. I was able to get it off the floor and wall but her poor dry erase board is doomed. AAHHHH 2 year olds! :)

Here we are at Mykell's skating birthday party. She went for the first time with a her school and loved it so much she wanted to have her party there. It was great for us because they took care of everything, all we had to do is show up ans have fun together, the price was very reasonable too...highly recommended.

We are so excited that Kaylee got her cast off. Of course we had to celebrate by going in the pool, which Kaylee was sooooo looking forward to. The whole time she had her cast on she would just stand by the sliding glass door and look outside at the pool yearning to go in. Finally when she got it off she kept saying "I go in pool!" I go in pool!" so we immediately went in the pool when we got home ans we all had a fun time splashing around and relaxing. She did really well at the doctors, squirmed a little when the "saw" was used to cut her cast because I think it scared her a little but after that she was fine and now she is running around and playing as if she never had it on.

We had so much fun visiting Molly and Ryan. Mykell and Makenna played the whole time and even had a "campout" on the porch. We also visited Disneyland which was great. We got to go to the front of all the lines because of Kaylee's cast. Jackie and Ryan joined us at night and then we stayed with them. Jackie showed us her dental office, cleaned all of our teeth and then put sealants on Mykells permanant teeth...hook it up! We walked around the pier by Jackie and Ryan's where there were a ton of carnival games to play, plus the kids enjoyed the horses on the carousel. Fun times Fun times!

Kaylee's "pink boot" (cast)

Our little gal had to get a cast or "pink boot" as she calls it because she broke her foot. It was really crazy, she was just playing with her cousin and fell down and all of a sudden didn't want to walk on it. So we took her to the doctor and they said it was most likely a sprain but when they got the X-ray back there was a buckle fracture. The doctor said that this is a common fracture for 2 year olds. So they put a cast on her to make sure it heals well since she is a toddler. She actually did really well. The only time she squirmed a little was right when they put the cast on because while it molds to the foot it gets really hot. Otherwise she was fine especially when they gave her Dora stickers. Now she is trying to learn to walk with a big "pink boot." Of course my sister Emily who is a sewing whiz had to "bling" up her blue cast shoe and make it look girly and cute. So now she has a sassy shoe to go along with her pink cast!

Memorial Day at the park

No big plans this year for Memorial day we just relaxed the weekend and went to the park, which was a lot of fun because the kids got to play in the water. Skating Field Trip

Here is another field trip we had a great time at. The whole school went to King Skate Country, and I went along for the fun. It totally brought back memories of how I used to go every weekend with my friends and get boogie bands. Mykell has never skated before but did really well. She had so much fun I think that we are going to have her birthday party there.

We all went to Wendy and Nates to see Ella dive onto her first birthday cake. We all had a great time swimming and having a BBQ, of course the kids loved the cupcakes best!

Life is so rough! We get to play and play until we finally fall asleep.

Here is Mykell tuckered out after a hard days play. She was watching Madagascar 2 and fell asleep. It must be so hard to have to play all day and then just fall asleep so easily......oohh what I wouldn't give sometimes to be a kid again! Kaylee was also helping me with my laundry and decided to climb in the dryer. She wanted to help put all the clothes in but I had to monitor her because she was trying to throw blacks and reds in with my whites. Good thing I caught her before that happened.

First step to building our cabin!

We are so excited my family is building a cabin up in the beautiful mountains. We have a lot of work ahead of us but if we all pitch in the end result will be wonderful. My parents just bought the land and we had a day out on Saturday where we went up to see the property and where we are going to build. The land is perfect, our cabin is going to be right up to an edge with the best view of the mountains. We are going to have all the back of the cabin be windows so the view will be awesome, plus there is tons of space to go hiking, four wheeling, etc. We all roasted hot dogs and talked about the plans to get things ready. I will have to post more pictures to show the progress.

Man Kaylee is our climber, runner, screamer, jumper, but in a nutshell our destroyer! This is what her room looks like after ONE nap. She climbs up the shelves, pull all the clothes out, pulls out all her wipes, diapers, and yes she has even spread her poopy diaper around. Although I laughed at her with the bag balm, when she put poop all around instead, she got in trouble. Lets just say she has had a lot of baths lately. I have resorted to only cleaning her room once a week since she pulls everything out like this every time she takes a nap so I am sick of cleaning it up two times a day. So is life with active children huh?

Our trip to Utah

We had a great time for Spring break. This year we decided, while Mykell was out of school, to drive to Utah. The kids actually did well on the drive, thanks to Dora DVD's. We were able to get tickets to the Sunday morning conference, which was wonderful to feel the spirit of those meetings. There was an art display at the conferance center, that was awesome. We then visited our friends Mike and Kelly and had a wonderful time. Kelly started my blog for me which I am so happy about because now I love it, it is such a great way to journal. The week was great and it was so nice to just be able to relax and do nothing. Casey and I did do Yoga that week though, which was nice, the girls always want to join in when we do it so Casey snapped some pictures of Kaylee trying to do yoga with us. We were also able to go to SLC and see the Joseph Smith movie which was outstanding. We have always had such a respect and admiration for him and Emma, the movie only reaffirmed the feeling's of what a great couple they were and how key the are to our religion and beliefs. The week ended with three Easter eggs hunts. One with Casey's family, one with our good friends Bob and Niesha, and then one right after the long ride home at my sisters. Although driving home on Easter was lame we were still so glad we were able to go.

As if destroying her room was not enough Kaylee got into the bag balm (petrolium jelly) and spread it everywhere! I thought that she was sleeping but all of a sudden I heard her giggling and making funny noises, so I went in to get her up from her "nap" and the bag balm was all over everything her bed, blankets, the wall and most of all herself. Too bad she is just too cute to get mad at.

Our ski/snowboard trip to Kirkwood

We had a great time going skiing and snowboarding. We all stayed up at my sisters cabin and the family went up to Kirkwood. The snow was awesome and the weather nice and sunny. Mykell and her cousin Elise took Ski lessons and had alot of fun, while my other sister watched Kaylee for us. It was a really nice break.
